A bit about Shelby
From the age of 4 I did what almost every little girl does, I started ballet. I was taught under the instructions of a dancer who was in the Royal National New Zealand Ballet, ballet taught me from a very young age to rely on fixing movements by feeling the way my body moves instead of looking at it. At the age of 13 I auditioned and was accepted to the Brisbane National ballet academy. Growing up in the industry caused a few body image issues as it is programmed that you should look a certain way, due to this I put pressure on myself to fit the image in people’s heads.
Although struggling with that it forced me to learn a lot about the human body and showed me the love that I have for what the human body can do. After finishing teaching and participating in ballet I found my love for health and fitness as well causing me to start my cert III in fitness throughout grade 12 and then followed to complete my certificate IV. I love being a personal trainer as it gives me the opportunity to help people love themselves and working with them to achieve their goals.
I was given the best of both worlds within my childhood by dancing I learnt how to concentrate on specific muscles and then being taught by awesome people throughout my course allowed me to learn a lot within strength and conditioning.
